Ace and Shadow meet

*she frowned.. It’d been a long time since she'd met those
with the freaky powers... last time she had was in... France if
memory served... the airport destruction.... She still shook her
head to think of it... must have hit something to take out the
entire airport... her nitro-9 was good... but not /that/ good...*
Perhaps.. *She took out the scanner again and fiddled with it* If
I'm correct... there should be one who lives here.. *Pointing to
the map* She goes there quite often.. Maybe she even has a friend
there... well... time to roll... *closing off her computer,
activating the HEAVY security measures... she goes down to the
garage and gets on her bike, closing the garage door after her*
Now no-one will get in.. *She grins* Well... let's roll! *And she
started her bike speeding away... far exceeding the speed
limits... even more once she portalled as she was thus going
faster than the speed of light... at least... to all
appearances... in actual fact it was a technology far superior
than any human technologies that made it portal.. Not light speed
at all...*
Zora Cable (Shadow) ~
*Smiling she moved around the gallery. It had been a while since
she had last worked in it. Normally she left the day to day
operations to the staff she had hired. Most of them knew more
about art than she did anyway. She was better at stealing it. The
gallery was just a front to launder the money anyway.*
Ace ~
*and so... outside that small town... a bike portalled in... if
anyone had seen it... they would be seriously freaked out...
everyone knew bikes couldn't do that... and the other
explanation... alien ships... was just as ridiculous.. but no-one
saw her... and so she rode into that town... looking for
churches... art galleries.. museums... obvious areas of public
gathering... that's where she'd start her enquiries* *of
course... it wasn't THAT small... just compared to the
metropolises of the future... just compared to the future when
America was one large city... as was England... well okay,
England wasn't actually that large a city... but still...
compared to those times... when it was the 'Earth Empire'... this
city wasn't actually that large...*
Shadow ~
*The gallery was quiet at the moment. Playing with the teleport
bracelet on her wrist she thinks about taking a trip to the
tavern. She hadn't been there in ages. Not since the big battle.
She activated the bracelet, but stopped short of the actual
teleport. Chuckling softly she could just see the headlines if
she disappeared from the middle of the gallery.*
Ace ~
*she pulled up next to the art gallery... parking her bike...
slinging her bag on her shoulder... slipping her gun into her
holster... and prepared to go inside... first taking out a flashy
badge... she couldn't be bothered about arguing about the
necessity of a gun... and if anyone figured out about that
nitro-9... but this badge... LOOKED good.. LOOKED official...
well it was actually... just registered three hundred years in
the future... and once more... she prepared to enter... her
glasses covering her eyes*
Shadow ~
*hearing a bike pull up out front she looks over at the front of
the gallery. The young woman doesn't look like she really belongs
in the area. Then again you never could tell who had money and
who didn't anymore. It had always been her policy to assist
anyone who came into the gallery. The scruffiest looking person
could very well lay down several million on art. In contrast to
some of the patrons she always demanded her staff look
impeccable. Even provided a clothing allowance to ensure they
looked the part. Picking at her own clothes she moves over to the
door. One of the reasons she didn't work the gallery often was
because she hated to dress up. Preferred her jeans and leather.*
Ace ~
*she watched as someone approached the door.. the door staff? Or
someone more important than that? she shrugged... flashed an
important looking badge at her as she entered... to provide
distractions from her bag.. and more particularly.. the gun
hidden under her jacket... which a proper search would reveal...
and then she spoke softly...* You live close to here? *and a
quick grin.. laughing*
Shadow ~
*Seeing the badge she is instantly on guard. Between her illegal
activities and the business with G.U.A.R.D. she didn't trust
anyone in authority.* Who are you and why do you want to know?
While your at it let me see that badge again..
Ace ~
*one thing about faking her authority... she only ever showed the
badge once at a given time... otherwise... someone might notice
that it actually said 'Earth Security, 24th Century'.. other than
a police force... or FBI... or a UN operative.. or whatever...*
My name's Ace... a private investigator... I'm just wondering...
cos if you are then you might be able to help me...
Shadow ~
*Crossing her arms she looks the girl over. Ace's refusal to show
her the badge marking her as suspect.* I see.. I'm afraid it's
not my policy to answer personal questions about either my
patrons or employees..
Ace ~
yes well... you could well be facing charges for obstruction of
justice if you don't.. *a disarming grin* and more... your
obstructing of justice... makes you a suspect... that this is a
cover for the one I'm searching for... and if I let that be known
then both your patrons and your employees would clear out of here
in no time flat... now then... going to be helpful are we?
Shadow ~
*Smiles back equally as charming* When you let me take a close
look at that badge I may consider it. Until then your just a punk
causing trouble. *waves her hand to indicate the employees and
few patrons in the gallery.* I don't think you will find them
very helpful if you decide to cause trouble.
Ace ~
*she laughs* Oh I think they'll be very helpful... if I am a
punk... I'll be discovered surely... but if not... they're not
going to risk getting on the wrong side of a private investigator
now are they? *she then blinked* Now then... maybe this will
change your mind... *remembering another of her badges... she
showed it... a UNIT badge...*
Shadow ~
*She had heard of UNIT from the time she spent in England. Not
many would fake a badge from a group like them.* All right. I'll
take your word you are who you say you are. Why don't we talk in
my office. *Without waiting to see if the woman would follow her
she makes her way to her office*
Ace ~
*she nods briefly and follows her.. just a brief flicker of the
eyebrows showing her surprise... the quick change from suspicion
to... well not welcoming.. but still... she knew UNIT was
reasonably important... especially in England... but also..
secretive... she'd picked up that perhaps this person had heard
of them... and it wasn't just the officialness of the badge...*
Shadow ~
*reaching her office she moves to look out the window. Her mind
racing over what the other one wanted. Sure that this was either
due to her illegal activities or probably more likely the
business with G.U.A.R.D. Again her hand goes to her bracelet. If
she needed to she could get out of her quick. It would require
some fancy explaining to her staff when, if she came back...
Without bothering to look at the other* What is it you need?
Ace ~
*she noted the bracelet.. she had from the start... deducing that
it was much more than just decoration.. but she ignores it*
Simple... anyone around here know about any.. paranormal
people... people with powers not available to humans... *her
expression was not... amused.. it wasn't a joke... it was as
though she took such activities for granted* Especially.. here...
*and she took out the map.. and pointed at the area where she'd
noted Lyta had gone.. it had been circled...*
Shadow ~
*Normally she was very good at hiding her emotions. Ace caught
her off guard. Not only was she talking about people with
paranormal abilities, which included her and Lyta, but she had
circled the area her house and gallery were in! A small gasp
escapes before she regains control. Only a small tremble in her
hand as she activates the bracelet ready to teleport gives away
her emotions. Looking at Ace she tries to sound amused. Raising a
brow at the other.* Paranormal? This is a joke, right?
Ace ~
*and Ace had caught the gasp... she needed to catch these minute
reactions... and had on these occasion... she slipped a tracking
device into her hand... secretively.. very secretively* No.. this
is not a joke... *she gave a quick look* Tell me... do you know
anything about UNIT? Like what they're meant to be doing?
Shadow ~
*She had been afraid that would be the answer. Familiar with UNIT
she nods* I know about them. *tilting her head she searches the
others face she trying to decide if she can trust her or not. The
others would not like anyone else knowing about them. Yet it may
be better than to let her stubble around and bring herself and
Lyta to someone elses attention.* Who are you?
Ace ~
I told you.. I'm Ace... *she shrugs* I.. was friends with someone
highly regarded by UNIT... I'm now a freelancer... I try to take
the side of right... and make sure no-one disturbs the time
stream..
Shadow ~
*She didn't remember the other giving her name, but then she had
been caught off guard.* Time stream? *chuckling she shakes her
head* Now you sound like an old man I know.. The Doctor is always
talking time stream.
Ace ~
*blinks* The professor? Short guy? Always carries around an
umbrella?
Shadow ~
*shakes her head* No.. This guy had a really long colorful scarf.
No umbrella.
Ace ~
*she then grins* Oh of course... Romana mentioned something about
that.. regeneration.... *she nods briefly* But anyway...
obviously you're involved with these paranormal activities...
*She shrugs* Why not tell me what they're about?
Shadow ~
*sighing she moves to sit in a chair. Motioning Ace to do the
same.* I'm involved all right. *smiles softly* You might say I'm
the center. *holding out her hand a small black ball of shadows
begins to form.* I'm called Shadow. My real name is Zora.
Ace ~
*she takes a seat* Well I suppose the other one must be a
room-mate of yours... *but she frowned.. either this was an
elaborate con job... or she'd made the right decision in not
shooting Lyta...*
Shadow ~
Other one? *hoping yet knowing that he meant Lyta.*
Ace ~
yeah.. the other one... she was talking about some sort of attack
on someplace in Earth... didn't catch her name....
Shadow ~
Lyta.. Please leave her alone. Lyta doesn't trust many. I'm just
now getting her to trust me.
Ace ~
*she sighs* I'll think about it.. if you either fill me in
yourself.. *shrewdly* Or if you'd rather not... lead me to
someone who's got the authority to fill me in without needing to
worry about the backlash from everyone else...
Shadow ~
*nods* Can you give me a few days to talk to some people? *smiles
ruefully* Trust me it would be in your own best interest to get
an ok before proceeding. *pauses trying to decide what she can
and can't tell her at this time.* There is another group of
unnaturals just as powerful as my group that is determined to
either control or destroy us. I hope you can understand our
caution.
Ace ~
*she shrugs* I'll give you 5 days.. a week at most... then I'll
be back here.. *she nods* Until then.. I'll be quiet... there's a
good chance that people will have forgotten about the normal who
was making their life a worry.. *she shrugs* A week from now?
Shadow ~
Thanks.. Do you have a place to stay? *it may seem that she is
being friendly, but actually she would prefer to keep the girl
close. Learn a bit more about her.*
Ace ~
*she shrugs* You mean here? In this city? No... have a place in
Paris and... *thinks* in Seattle I think...
Shadow ~
Seattle? *frowns.. That was two close to the old G.U.A.R.D
headquarters. She only hoped she wasn't making a big mistake with
Ace.*
Ace ~
*she shrugs* I'm not too fond of it myself... spend most of my
time in Paris... *of course... now that the airport had been
destroyed... and her as the prime suspect... that may have to be
changed* In fact.. last time I went to Seattle.. *frowns* Another
of those fights with your friends and your enemies... *she
shrugs* I haven't been there for a few months now..
Shadow ~
It is safer to stay out of Seattle at this time. If you like you
can stay at my place.
Ace ~
*she shrugged* Very well.. *she nods* Thank you.. *oh she guessed
it was something like keeping an eye on her... but still.... to
put her at ease... whether she be potential ally or potential
foe... would be useful in the long run*
Shadow ~
Good.. Let me tell my manager and you can give me a ride to the
house. *chuckling she heads out of the office* I'm sure you know
where the house is.
Ace ~
*she snickered... and waited for her to return.. then she'd lead
her out to her bike... see how she could cope with a ride on her
bike*...
Shadow ~
*Stepping back into the room she motions for Ace* Ready?
Ace ~
*she nods.. smirks and heads out towards her bike* Hope you can
handle this...
Shadow ~
I can handle it.
Ace ~
let's hope so... *getting on her bike* Hold tight now...
Shadow ~
*glad she had worn pants she gets on behind Ace. Wrapping her
arms around the other.* Let's go..
Ace ~
indeed... *she started her bike... and whilst she was somewhat
slower... obeying the traffic laws... she was still going fast...
and came close to breaking them... and headed towards the
mansion*
Shadow ~
*If Ace had thought to frighten her with the speed she was
wrong.* Faster!! The cops around here wont bother us.
Ace ~
*she shrugged...* If you insist... *and then... she went
faster... and portalled to just outside the house... near as she
could estimate to her... the portalling quite a shocking
experience to the uninitiated...*
Shadow ~
*laughing she gripped Ace tighter as they went through the
portal. This wasn't much different than her teleport bracelet or
even her movements in the shadows.* Better!!
Ace ~
*she laughed* Obviously not a stranger to this sort of thing..
*she shrugged*
((At this point Will had to leave. We assumed that Shadow took Ace inside. Introduced her to Shadows friend and house manager Jack.))
